Physical Education Department

Philosophy:  We believe physical education is an integral part of the educational program here at Weston Ranch High.  It is a phase of education, which provides an opportunity through activity for physical, mental, social development, and improvement of the individual to meet the challenges of life.  It is our mission at Weston Ranch to empower all students to sustain regular lifelong physical activity as a foundation for a healthy productive and fulfilling life.

Objective: To provide a quality physical education program for student, ensure a positive and safe environment for learning, promote the enjoyment of physical activity, and teach the benefits of life long physical activity.

Dress Policy
Weston Ranch‘s physical education department requires that all student dress out for class each day.  Required uniform for students include wearing Weston Ranch physical education gear and tennis shoes, but is not limited to students wearing plain maroon shorts and plain gray t-shirt with no print or logos.  In the winter, gray or maroon sweat pants and sweatshirts may be substituted still requiring no print or logos.  Weston Ranch sweatpants and sweatshirts will be for sale throughout the year while supplies last.  Failure to dress for class will result in a non-dress penalty consequence against student’s grade.

Swimming Attire
Males: a swimsuit with an elastic waistband or drawstring is to be worn.
Females: a one or two-piece swimsuit may be worn, but must be appropriate for school.  No spaghetti straps or neck tie ups.

Non-Dress Consequence
First (Non-Dress) -Teacher/student conference
Second (ND) - Teacher/Parent contact
Third (ND) - Loss of letter grade, referral to counselor/dean
Fourth and subsequent (ND) - Grade lowered another letter grade
Six or more (ND’s) will subject the student to failing the course.  At the end of each quarter the non dress count will start over.

Participation

A student well enough to be in school is generally well enough to be dressed and participating in class.  Any exception will be handled on an individual basis.  A note from a parent is required to excuse a student due to injury or illness; it will be accepted for a max of (3) consecutive days with longer requiring a doctor’s note.  A student who has become ill at school will discuss the problem with the teacher before the start of class, so the best course of action can be made for the student.  Any student with an excused absence from school or excuse from class participation will be required to make-up points to get credit for class(es) missed.  For any days not made up, the points missing will be factored into your quarter grade.

P.E. Make-ups:  It is the student’s responsibility to keep up with days needed for make ups.  Generally make ups can be done by running or doing article reports.

Locker Info:

All students will be given a school issued lock.  It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that P.E. clothes are securely locked in their small lockers. The larger locker next to their individual can be used during the period for storage, but vacated after the period.  Responsibility is left to the student to use only their assigned locker and check in the office if their lock is loss.  Replacement locks will cost the student $5.00.  Weston Ranch High School is not responsible for lost or stolen items not secured by the student.
